Before Your Procedure (NPO Guidelines):

  • Do not eat or drink anything (including water, gum, candy, mints) for at least 8 hours before your scheduled appointment.
  • If medications need to be taken, use only a small sip of water, as directed by your provider.
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours prior to sedation.
  • You must have a driver that can remain in the office during the procedure. Use of public transportation is not allowed.

What to Wear:

  • Dress comfortably in loose-fitting, short-sleeved clothing to allow easy access for IV placement.
  • Avoid tight clothing, jewelry, and contact lenses.
  • Remove all facial and oral piercings before arriving for your appointment.

Transportation:

  • Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home after your procedure; you will not be allowed to drive yourself.
  • Plan to have someone stay with you at home for several hours afterward.

What to Expect During and After IV Sedation:

  • IV sedation will make you feel relaxed, comfortable, and drowsy.
  • You will remain conscious but may have little or no memory of the procedure afterward.
  • Monitoring of your vital signs will occur continuously during the procedure to ensure safety.

Post-Procedure Guidelines:

  • Rest quietly at home for the remainder of the day.
  • Avoid operating machinery, driving, or making important decisions for at least 24 hours.
  • Consume soft, easy-to-digest foods and plenty of fluids when you feel ready to eat.

Contact Us Immediately If:

  • Severe or persistent nausea or vomiting occurs.
  • You experience difficulty breathing, severe dizziness, or other unusual symptoms.

Your comfort and safety are our highest priorities. Please contact our office if you have any questions or concerns.
