Before Your Procedure (NPO Guidelines):
- Do not eat or drink anything (including water, gum, candy, mints) for at least 8 hours before your scheduled appointment.
- If medications need to be taken, use only a small sip of water, as directed by your provider.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours prior to sedation.
- You must have a driver that can remain in the office during the procedure. Use of public transportation is not allowed.
What to Wear:
- Dress comfortably in loose-fitting, short-sleeved clothing to allow easy access for IV placement.
- Avoid tight clothing, jewelry, and contact lenses.
- Remove all facial and oral piercings before arriving for your appointment.
Transportation:
- Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home after your procedure; you will not be allowed to drive yourself.
- Plan to have someone stay with you at home for several hours afterward.
What to Expect During and After IV Sedation:
- IV sedation will make you feel relaxed, comfortable, and drowsy.
- You will remain conscious but may have little or no memory of the procedure afterward.
- Monitoring of your vital signs will occur continuously during the procedure to ensure safety.
Post-Procedure Guidelines:
- Rest quietly at home for the remainder of the day.
- Avoid operating machinery, driving, or making important decisions for at least 24 hours.
- Consume soft, easy-to-digest foods and plenty of fluids when you feel ready to eat.
Contact Us Immediately If:
- Severe or persistent nausea or vomiting occurs.
- You experience difficulty breathing, severe dizziness, or other unusual symptoms.
